Hi! I’m Mark Shelton, a visual designer and educator based in Indiana who works with marching band, winter guards, and indoor percussion programs.
I’ve been involved in the marching arts for many years and previously marched with Madison Scouts, The Cadets, and Carolina Crown, as well as went through the Avon High School marching band and graduated in 2024. Those experiences and the educators I learned from helped shape my passion for visual design, education, and being a positive influence on students!
I’m also involved with OpenMarch in a business development role, helping grow an open-source drill design platform focused on making drill writing tools more accessible for educators and designers.
I’m currently working toward my undergraduate degree in Business Administration (Marketing) through Indiana University.
If you are looking for a visual designer for your program, I’d love to connect!
I believe great visual design should serve the performers, the music, and the overall story of the show. My goal is to create drill that looks exciting for audiences while still being achievable and educational for students.
Because of my experience as both a performer and educator, I understand what works well on the field and floor. I focus on writing visuals that are clear, musical, and staged effectively so performers can succeed and grow throughout the season.
When working with programs, I aim to be collaborative, reliable, and easy to work with. Every ensemble is different, and I enjoy helping directors bring their vision to life while creating moments that students are proud to perform and set them up for sucess.
I also understand that every program has different resources, and I’m happy to work with programs to find a design approach that fits their budget!
